Postgraduate Literature reviews
Overall score
I decided to do a master's as i wanted to continue studying my subject in greater depth. I found the course interesting and enjoyable and i would definitely recommend it.
Study experience
Lecture and seminars were informative and challenging and we were given lots of free reign to pursue our own individual interests.
Facilities
All excellent, and easily accessible on one campus.
Postgraduate life
Lecturers and students socialised out of lecture time and the course was an opportunity to meet like-minded people. The university campus and hall life is great, although i lived in a house during my MA.
Job prospects
I think having a master's has been useful in interviews and so on. I didn't really utilise the university career's service as much as i could have.

Classical Studies-English MA (Hons)
University Of St Andrews
Caitlin, November 2008Overall score
St. Ambrose University (Davenport, Iowa, USA) has a great location-right between small town and huge city
Study experience
Take classes that you enjoy. There is nothing worse than getting a degree, taking classes that make you miserable.
Facilities
Amazing library, helpful staff. Lots of sports, activities, etc.
Postgraduate life
There is something for everybody.
Job prospects
My degree will allow me to do whatever I want and St. Ambrose helps you get settled.

English Literature MA
University Of Warwick
Jennifer, August 2009Overall score
I would not recommend Warwick University to others. I felt as though the university only wanted my money and said good luck to the survival bit of the course.
The English department and university as a whole seemed to go out of their way to create a sense of competition between the students in the department. They discouraged bonding, cameraderie and community which made my year of the MA programme incredibly isolating.
Study experience
With all MA programmes there are few contact hours. I chose the disseratation option and thus had four contact hours per week in the first term and two contact hours per week in the second term. It was flexible, but again, isolating.
I was successful in my work and I feel more prepared to handle what a Phd would be like, but I am not sure if this is the purpose of an MA.
Academic advice to new students--do not let your work take over every bit of free time. Make a solid group of friends and set yourselves a schedule each day to work and see friends.
Facilities
The bars are 'improving' as we speak. they are relatively characterless, and one is referred to as the 'airport lounge'.
the sports facilities are well taken care of though busy around 5-7pm when it's difficult to find equipment.
Postgraduate life
I will applaud Warwick's societies which range from trampolining to manga to the international society.
i was a member of the wine and whisky society and cricket and met some great people in both.
Job prospects
Warwick has a good name and this definitely helped my job prospects.
I will consider doing a phd in the future but nothing would ever tempt me to even apply at Warwick. For me, university is more than about job prospects and Warwick offered little by way of emotional and academic support.
