Biochemistry Dphil
Oxford University
Katharine, November 2007Overall score
I have loved the traditional style of Oxford, the chance to have individual tutorials and the world renowned scientists who leacture. It can be daunting and stressful at times but by carrying on trying you can always overcome those times.
Study experience
9-12 hours lectures, quite hard work but always inspiring. Lectures are generally helpful and tutorials give lots of chances to ask questions.
Facilities
Amazing facilities, many different libraries, plenty of computers. The bars are great and there are lots of different sport facilities.
Postgraduate life
Hundreds, you can do anything! I sing with a choir and have helped with charity work in the past. The Oxford union (a debating and social society) has a lot of invited famous speakers.
Job prospects
Lots of opportunities for further study and high recruitment rates. Studying at Oxford has made me sure about what I want to do with my life!

Make sure you follow seminar and lecturers information on what to do as this will help get a better grade.
Study experience
Keep motivation up by setting yourself a routine.
Facilities
A swimming pool would be nice but the gym has been refurbished to a high quality and the library is well equipped and there are normally enough comuter points.
Postgraduate life
Could be more societies and clubs of interest to me. I am only member of one. I would like a film or book club.
Job prospects
CDEC careers advice very useful and will help to continue my postgraduate career.

Sarah, December 2007Overall score
I enjoyed my undergrad experience at Sussex so much that I stayed on for post grad work.
Study experience
My small department meant that the lecturers knew most of us relatively quickly. Most were very approachable.
Facilities
Library starts a trial of 24hour opening in January which is good. Other facilities are generally good.
Postgraduate life
Huge number of different clubs and societies and it's dead easy to set one up if there isn't one that fits your fancy.
Job prospects
Finished my undergrad course feeling prepared for the real world but had the opportunity to stay a student for longer...
