Postgraduate London South Bank University reviews

A big let down

Social Research Methods MSc

London South Bank University

Jamie, November 2009

Overall score

I would definately not recommend this university to others. I find the organisation appaling, the front line staff are rude and incapable. The teaching is inconsistant and the assessment is poor. The library and e-resources are far from adequate and finally the new buildings are badly designed and the old buildings are dirty and inaccessable. What a waste of money, I wish I had gone elsewhere.

Study experience

Where the content is interesting in places, the MSc Social Research Methods students are 'tagged' onto other courses modules, and as a result the teaching is completely off for the needs of a research methods student. In ptactical session of the module 'Research Methods' the lecturer did not know how to label a graph in Microsoft Excel. Appaling.

Facilities

The library and the LRC are two seperate buildings, so if you are working on an assignment you do not have easy access to the books. Crazy! The library is small, especially for such a big university and access to the online resources is poor. LSBU need to up their subscription!

Postgraduate life

I have no experience of this.

Job prospects

I can't see how my postgrad is going to prepare me for anything in the job market.

Review

International Finance and Banking MSc

London South Bank University

I Dont, August 2009

Overall score

The university is poorly equipped and they do not have qualified teacher to teach.

Study experience

Our econonometrics teacher Emanuel seldomly came to the class for teaching and used to go to pick up his glasses while students were waiting for him.

Facilities

Very very bad. The computers are slow. There is not enough database. The bloomberg terminal's data can not be saved.

Workplace Learning

MA Module Dylsexia in the Workplace

London South Bank University

Anon, April 2007

Overall score

Study experience

The course was an Ma Module ans therefore prior knowledge was needed. We were a small group, who were given different scenarios each week to work out and produce (fabuolous) information sheets on after class discussion. The interaction worked well with the tutor bring much expereince and insight into every situation.

Facilities

The room was large enough and heat and light were sufficient. There was always decent coffee and biscuits at the break!!!! There was a large boardroom like table that we could all mill around and pass ideas.

Postgraduate life

There were 6 - 8 of us on any one week. We were from all sides of the country and gelled well together. At the end of the course it was like saying goodbye to old friends. There was one very lucky man and the rest of us were females. We mixed well and worked well when small groups were set up to delph and discover. We all had differnet work and academic backgrounds and this helped the resources that we were able to put together. Altogether a very enjoyable expereince but a lot of work!!!!
