The Creative Writing - Poetry MA at Manchester Metropolitan University is a 1 year full time course. On successful completion candidates will be awarded the following qualification: MA by Manchester Metropolitan University. The course will be assessed as follows: The five elements are assessed as follows: the text - one 5000 word essay on an aspect of publishing in any medium, plus a full portfolio of programme exercises, both due at the end of the first year of the programme. Literacy programme - two 3000 word essays, one due at the end of each semester, workshop seminar - regular attendance compulsory, spoken and written contribution to the work of others in the group - continually assessed. the transmission of text - 6000 - 8000 word project or a project in an other medium on a subject agreed with programme convener, Portfolio - a volume of poetry of at least 400 lines..

Programme has four routes: poetry, the novel, life writing and children's writing routes, each programme consists of four elements: The Workshop, Literature Course, The Text, The Transmission Project. Taught by established and well-known writers, with a strong practical element in the text and project modules which familiarise would-be writers and teachers with the literary industries and their place within it, this is a uniquely rounded course including a strong academic component as well. Full-time students complete the three taught elements and the Transmission Project in one year and spend their second year, with limited supervision, completing their portfolio.
Necessary qualifications:
BA humanities (any discipline), submission of writing portfolio, one specimen of critical writing and two academic/creative references. Mature/non-standard entry at the departments discretion subject to the submission of satisfactory portfolio and specimen of critical writing and two academic/creative references.
