Postgraduate Newcastle University reviews

Lecturers with time

Politics PhD

Newcastle University

Nick, August 2009

Overall score

Get involved with your department - goto seminars by visiting lecturers, take part in department events, the more you put into your experience the more you will get back.

Study experience

The best thing about Newcastle is that the lecturers have time for you unlike many universities I have been to with famous professors that you rarely get to see or are so full of themselves that it is impossible to produce any independent thought.

Facilities

Library sucks with regards to books - but plenty of computers. Student union is not the best but cheap beer.

Postgraduate life

A good selection of clubs and societies. Setting up your own club is not a nightmare either.

Job prospects

The careers advice department is brilliant and one of the best I know. But not many job opportunities in the region where 1 in 4 are unemployed. If you are prepared to move around the country then opportunities do improve but there is a lot of prejudice against the North East to be found outside of the region - although your degree will be alot better than other people, regional prejudice may work against you.
