Secondary (Religious Studies) PGCE
University Of Chichester
Jenna, April 2010Overall score
My experience of the PGCE is a positive one, lectures and school experience was well organised. The course is very demanding and hard work. I decided to do a PGCE because I always wanted to teach but I wanted some life experience before I committed myself to challenging career. I would recommend this course to someone who is looking for a drastic change and someone who can take criticism well.
Study experience
Majority of course material was relevant, I found there was one or two days worth of lectures which seemed pointless. There are different methods of assessments, assignments, personal development folder, observations and directed tasks. Support is fantastic, I feel that I can contact anyone and they will be willing to help or give feedback. I funded my course myself. I recieved a bursary from the government. The relationship the University has with the schools is also very good. I recieved just as good support when I was at school.
Facilities
Facilities were fine, I never felt I needed anything more.
Postgraduate life
As the course is so intense, I did not have much of a social life with the other students. The majority time of the course we are apart at different schools, therefore did not see each other. There were twelve students who were studying to be RE teachers.
Job prospects
I feel it will have enhanced my career prospects, but there are more people qualifying as teachers which makes the job market more competitive. The university are good, they send emails us about schools who are hiring.
