Gillian Pallis - Facilities

So, when we're looking at the type of added value activities that we would expect our students to engage in, we would hope that students would join a number of their associated professional societies as part of our student chapters. These are associated with the Society of Petroleum Engineers, the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators, we also would immediately expect they would join the Energy Institute and we would promote them to visit the Scottish Oil Club as well.

We also invite weekly a whole range of specialists that are visiting various areas to the UK to come up here to Dundee, to our specialist centers, and they deliver very specialist programs, master classes in their area. Students are also invited to engage in professional development programs, where we embed them with networking expertise, presentation expertise, so generally building on the skills important for a professional within this sector today.

We also find that our students engage with a number of communities within Aberdeen which is obviously our nearest focus for the oil and gas industry here. But we also have internship programs here. A number of our students may wish to do their extended piece of research resulting from a internship opportunity which they have engaged with. So, I guess what I'm trying to say here, beyond the traditional academic studies, there is a whole sense, very important opportunities for students who are wishing to engage within our post graduate programs.
