Agricultural and Environmental Sciences MRes
University Of Nottingham
Kitty, April 2010Overall score
Notts is good, esp if you like clubbing/getting drunk most nights/ have a loud outgoing personality. It attracts TUCK LOADS of private school pricks who have waaaay too much money and are completely insensitive to other people- watch out for this if you're considering staying in halls. Standard of education is good- lecturers seem to know what they're on about and lots are research active.
Most important bit of info for notts: ACCOMODATION! Consider v.carefully. Halls differ quite a bit on campus, both in terms of facilities and the people they attract.
Study experience
The reading they say to do in your first year is a load of rubbish! Ive done no reading, still managed to get a first. Dont buy any books for first year. Alot of the modules assess via multiple answers- easy. Not much help given (actually no help at all) if you want to do modules outside of your course area- have to contact the school yourself, check out module, check timetable and contact your tutor- all very complicated and normally end up missing 1/2 lectures of the module.
Facilities
2 libraries on UP, 2 on Jubilee and 1 on Sutton Bonington campus. Generally well stocked altho not enough copies of core books i find and its a constant battle of requesting and returning! Lots of computers, in the cripps comp centre esp altho not that many in the libraries themselves ESPECIALLY on the jub campus!!
Sports facilities would be ok if you didnt have to pay £280 a year to use them- more exp than lough and they have better facilities and coaches!!
Postgraduate life
LOTS! GO to freshers fair and sign up! If your not sure you can always put your name on the mailing list for a month and sample the club!
Job prospects
Lots of offer! Always career fairs on and companys promoting thereself round campus- loads of freebies! Career centre emails weekly plus lots of chances to get involved plus theres the notts advantage award!
