Celtic Civilisation and History MA (Hons)
University Of Aberdeen
Alex, January 2008Overall score
Aberdeen uni is a lovely wee campus, and the city itself may be small but there's still a whole load of stuff to do. Well worth checking out especially for certain subjects.
Study experience
Personally I think my courses and the staff are fab. In first year I had about 15 hours a week in uni, now in my last semester of fourth I have 3 hours a week, but I also have to write my dissertation. I was gives pretty much a free reign with this and there's a load of choice with history courses weather you want to do ancient/modern or anything in between. The Celtic department is small and friendly everyone knows everyone which gives for a nice atmosphere during class.
Facilities
The library?s pretty good, we've tons of computers and the whole campus is now wireless too. We've a gym and swimming pool on campus though you do have to pay for membership it's much cheaper than your average private gym.
Postgraduate life
A nice range of clubs and soc's ranging from the usual rugby, football to stuff like ultimate Frisbee and underwater hockey. The societies are just as varied with faith, nationality, subject and just plain random ones, we apparently have the only Harry Potter Society in Scotland, not sure if this is something to be proud about or not.
Job prospects
Something like 97% of our graduates go on to a job or further education within 6 months of graduating. Staying on for post grad is easy and my departments helped me apply and advised me about what to take. After being at uni I know this is where I want to stay, my lectures have all been enthusiastic about me wanting to be an academic, which has been great.

Overall score
The university is well-organised, with the School of Business being different from many others around the UK - they actually talk to each other!
The course itself is interesting and varied, although there is a fair bit of overlap in the First Year, and it is all topped off by lecturers and tutorial staff who WANT to be there and WANT to help you learn.
Study experience
Keep on top of everything - especially your reading.
It's so easy to get distracted but if you do it all little and often then you'll have time to spare to revise, not just catch up at the end of a semester.
Facilities
There isn't a union, which is a little depressing with RGU's just up the road, but The Watering Hole on Hillhead Campus is enough for the first years and a few more, with The Bobbin catering for those in CJ and the surrounding areas (like me!).
There are more than enough pubs and clubs for both unis, which is great.
Computers and music rooms get very tight towards exam periods, and you're always lucky if you find a computer in The Hub, but the whole campus ia covered with Wi-Fi anyway, you can connect sitting outside King's College and take in that lovely view... or even take a little stroll down to the NEW sporting facilities. A little over-priced if I'm being honest but PRETTY! Besides, it's not too far to walk, and there's enough space for everyone, unlike the old centre.
Postgraduate life
There is quite literally a club for anything you could want... and heck, even if it's not quite your taste, you can always start a new society - it's really easy to do :)
Job prospects
The Careers service are down-to-earth, to the point and very hardworking.

South East Asian Studies MA
School Of Oriental And African Studies (University Of London)
Leigh, November 2008Overall score
My advice would be to get as much experience as possible!
Study experience
As above - get as much experience as possible - get involved with everything.
Facilities
There is enough of everything - there is everything I need.
Postgraduate life
Not well advertised.
Job prospects
SOAS should provide me with a good chance at the job i want.
