Postgraduate reviews
English and Film Studies MA (Hons)
University Of Aberdeen
Amy, February 2009Overall score
aberdeen univerisity is a good uni but one thing to consider if your moving from elsewhere is how far away it is from any other city!
Study experience
i find lectures pretty boring but i hate concentrating. dont go to that many to comment tbh,.
Facilities
these are pretty good. library i think stays open quite late like 10pm (but im not hundred percent on that) plus webct with all the lectures on it for most courses. this can be pretty handy! but i think most unis have something similar.
Postgraduate life
im not a member of any this year but i know everybody has a good time who is a member of one and there are plenty. most charge you to join up though
Job prospects
dunt know about when you graduate but ive had no problem finding part time work whilst i study

The university is well-organised, with the School of Business being different from many others around the UK - they actually talk to each other!
The course itself is interesting and varied, although there is a fair bit of overlap in the First Year, and it is all topped off by lecturers and tutorial staff who WANT to be there and WANT to help you learn.
Study experience
Keep on top of everything - especially your reading.
It's so easy to get distracted but if you do it all little and often then you'll have time to spare to revise, not just catch up at the end of a semester.
Facilities
There isn't a union, which is a little depressing with RGU's just up the road, but The Watering Hole on Hillhead Campus is enough for the first years and a few more, with The Bobbin catering for those in CJ and the surrounding areas (like me!).
There are more than enough pubs and clubs for both unis, which is great.
Computers and music rooms get very tight towards exam periods, and you're always lucky if you find a computer in The Hub, but the whole campus ia covered with Wi-Fi anyway, you can connect sitting outside King's College and take in that lovely view... or even take a little stroll down to the NEW sporting facilities. A little over-priced if I'm being honest but PRETTY! Besides, it's not too far to walk, and there's enough space for everyone, unlike the old centre.
Postgraduate life
There is quite literally a club for anything you could want... and heck, even if it's not quite your taste, you can always start a new society - it's really easy to do :)
Job prospects
The Careers service are down-to-earth, to the point and very hardworking.

Absolutely loving it!! Was able to experience life in another country too as part of the programme. I would recommend doing your research - I went to a few open days before deciding on Aberdeen
Study experience
The first couple of years were really flexible and that was great as I still wasn't 100% sure what I want to do. My lecturers have been fab and really supportive - so feel happy about graduating and entering the 'real' world!
Facilities
Library is fab and the librarians are really helpful - apparently there's a new library coming but not till after I graduate unfortunately! Getting a new sports centre too but am not exactly sporty!
Postgraduate life
I went a bit mental in Freshers week and signed up for hundreds of them! Now I'm a member of 2 - the German society and the Sticky Toffee Pudding Appreciation Society.
Job prospects
My accounts lecturers have told me we have one of the highest employment prospects so am pretty hopeful of getting a job. If not open to doing a PG - living more of the student life - oh yeah!!
