Medical Statistics MSc
London School Of Hygiene And Tropical Medicine
Adrian , June 2007Overall score
Study experience
Now that i am 2 weeks before my final exams, and avoiding revision, my views about the course have not particularly changed. In some ways the more interesting modules like Advance Statistical Modeling were the most interesting modules delivered on the course. Again the teaching is excellent. James Carpenter and Mike Kenward who deliver large chunks of the course are very clear concise and accurate. This is exactly what you want when someone is explaining complex ideas. I think if your considering this course be sure you are interested in the applications of statistics to medicine, and are reasonably good at explaining your thoughts via essays. In addition you need good computing skills. If you have trouble with simple packages like word and excel you may strugle with the more complex packages.
Facilities
The faccilities at the school are preety much as described in a previous review. However when the current building work is finished i am sure lshtm will be a wonderful place to study. However, the course orgainisers could still do more to accomodate the needs of the students by providing better white boards for lectures. The basics are being sadly overlooked.
Postgraduate life
All the students are great and the atmosphere is really nice. Everyone is supportive and always willing to help. There doesn't appear to be much competition between students which is nice.
