World Art Studies and Museology MA (Research)
University Of East Anglia
Oliver, May 2010Overall score
UEA is an excellent place to come and study, the campus is nice, friendly and very green. Plus you are very close to Norwich city centre (literally walkable) and the city is a very nice place to be, particularly if you avoid the 3o'clock after school rush! The World Art department is one of the best places in the country to study art, with good staff and excellent resources.
Study experience
The lectures and seminars are very wide ranging and wont always be of interest to you personally, but its always worth turning up as you may find out something new. And always, always do the set reading, that is how you learn all the theory, and once you know the theory you can apply it to all the stuff you study, then youll feel very clever.
Facilities
the library is ok, plenty of books, but not enough computers. The bar is good, always lively and trying to run events, very friendly, but it is more pricey than some uni bars because the union is self funded, which is incredible considering what it does. So you pay a little more for a pint and in return you get good service, good club nights, good bands and other goodies throughout the year. Sports teams around the campus are growing and becoming more competitive in the country, with many teams competing at national tournaments. Ultimate Frisbee and Volley ball are 2 of the best teams in the country in their sport.
Postgraduate life
there are 100s of clubs and societies, the sports clubs do a lot throughout the year, lots of socials and stuff, again Frisbee is the club i would recommend joining as it is friendly environment, youll learn a new sport, and as they go to tournaments all over Europe youll get to travel around uk unis and go on a few holidays. Youll make a lot of friends too! the other big societies are Livewire, the radio station where you can hone your dj/presenting skills, and UEA RAG (raising and giving) which this year has raised nearly £10000 for charity through socials and events (like Movember and the famous Pimp my Barrow)
Job prospects
i dont think this question is quite right, im sure a degree can help your job prospects, but you still have to go and find it yourself, and i feel university experience has helped me grow as a person and that will help you develop your job prospects as much as anything else.
