St Mary's University College (Twickenham)
Philippa, July 2010Overall score
A challenging learning experience, many thought provoking talks and discussions, well organised and mostly enjoyable. The part-time and long-distance option was ideal in allowing me to continue my other work and family roles while still being able to complete an MA. A useful qualification to have and very relevant for current issues.
Study experience
Material well structured and delivered. Good mix of internal and guest lecturers. Approachable and supportive tutors - sometimes beyond the call of duty. Financed it myself and have no regrets in doing so - money well invested. Being spread over 3 years helps financing!
Facilities
Teaching excellent. Used online library/journals a lot but little use of college library as not there much. IT support prompt and efficient.
Postgraduate life
not really relevant as only part-time and long distance, however have made some useful contacts from the course that I will maintain. This was enabled by online discussions and occasional day lectures.
Job prospects
An MA is almost always useful. The bioethics MA is a challenging MA that covers a wide range of disciplines - philosophy, law, ethics, medicine, sociology, public health, religion etc. As I work in the area already it will be a real help to have this MA - not just to have an MA but from what I have learnt from the studying itself. Some very useful contacts made too.

Liz, November 2007Overall score
The OU is the perfect way to get a top graduate education without the expense of a student life style. I held down a full-time office job for the 3 years it took to complete my MA.
I benefited from great teaching but I wasn't broke at the end of it!
Study experience
The MA have support and guidance but mostly provided the opportunity to learn to research by myself.
Facilities
The online library is second to none and provides access to databases, periodicals, journals and papers.
Postgraduate life
Job prospects
Now that my MA is over I can add 2 letters to my name.
