Postgraduate Social Work reviews
Social Work (Postgraduate Entry) MA (Hons)
London South Bank University
Charli, June 2008Overall score
As a postgrad student, the work has been more or a priority, the facilities have been there to resource that, students are spot on, the classrooms are located and are as accessible as a street bollard in an aztec jungle, hence not very good. The admin is not too good either.Students coming here need to be very organised and proactive in getting what they need to do on their own back as relying on the uni to automatically do stuff would involve considerable long waits.
Study experience
Lecturers are helpful. Courses are jam packed full of stuff.
Facilities
Good library, pretty indepth journal section.
Postgraduate life
Pretty low on variety of clubs.
Job prospects

Study experience
I was not very happy with my course at JMU. Firstly, the timetable was structured badly. In the 1st first semester of year1, we were in university nearly everyday & had tonnes of work. In the 1st semester of year 2, we were only in for 1 day a week but then they made us attend recall days during our placements for another module. This module should have been delievered before we started the placements after xmas to enable us to complete it before going on work experience rather than leaving us with more work on top of the placements. I started my placement nearly 3 months late because the university couldnt get me a placement on time. This impacted on me finishing my degree much later than other students and I'm still not in a job and its nearly Christmas time. The university are also badly organised and failed to send off the results at the end of our course to the GSCC to enable us to register, causing delays in our registration status going through. One good thing was I did have a supportive tutor who was helpful.
Facilities
Facilities were generally ok. A good selection of books but on some modules the selection was limited. IT facilities were good but sometimes it was difficult to get a free computer.
Postgraduate life
Alot of students were very unhappy with the course and morale was low. I found people very friendly and enjoyed mixing with the other students.

MA Social Work
University Of Central Lancashire

Study experience
A really good Social Work course. No major complaints. I go to college 4 days a week. The content is better than I thought it would be. The tutors are meeting our needs and give us a chance to give feedback all the time. We have assignments for every module.
Facilities
It is clean and modern and it has all the facilities I need for the course. If they don't have them, they can be ordered like inter-library loans and information.
Postgraduate life
I do look forward to going to class except for the early morning starts at 9am. They other students are friendly although there are always childish ones in the class. I have made friends and feel a part of a group.
