The course is underpinned by a model of critically reflective practice and is designed to offer professionals the opportunity to engage actively in the processes of systematic and analytical enquiry into the theories and practices of education leadership and management, with a view to developing and improving their own practice. It complements the National College of School Leadership's development programmes. NB: The MA is not a qualification to teach in the UK. Key areas of study are: The Educational Organisation in its Environment; Leading and Managing People in Education; Change Strategy and Implementation; Leading and Managing Teaching and Learning. In addition, modules include: International Perspectives on Professional Practice in Education (IPPPE); Research Methods and Enquiry in Education (required); Dissertation (for MA students only). Other possible modules include: Independent Study; APEL; Context of Professional Practice. The term Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) describes the process of giving formal recognition to learning that derives from personal experiences gained, for the most part, in employment situations.
Necessary qualifications:
A degree in a related field of education and/or have a comparable professional award plus relevant experiential learning. Applicants not meeting the normal entry requirements may be required to take a qualifying assignment and/or present a portfolio of documentary evidence of intellectual and professional development resulting from prior experiential learning. For non-native speakers the English requirement is IELTS 6.5 overall with no less than 6 in any of the bands.
