Andrew, November 2007Overall score
The University is a brilliant place which is being constantly improved and modernised. Though at times the admin side of things tends to lack the societies, social life and education more than make up for it.
Study experience
Lecturers can be alittle dry and slow at dealing with minor problems but in the end will always come through.
Facilities
Huge library with both books and computers, a film theatre, News room suite, court rooms.
Postgraduate life
Hundreds of different sports and numberous clubs. I have been a member of the Drama Society for 3 years and have enjoyed every minute of it.

I will be starting my final year at Staffordshire University in September and have really enjoyed my time there so far. I would definately recommend Staffordshire University to other people. I am based in the Law School, which is fairly new. The staff are really friendly and always happy to help. Enjoy Welcome Week and make the most of your time at University, it goes very quickly!
Study experience
I am really enjoying my law course, I have 8 hours of lectures a week (4 x 2hr lectures) and 4 hours of tutorials (4 x 1 hr tutorials) over a fortnight. In the first year there were 4 x 1 tutorials a week but this is fortnightly in the 2nd and 3rd years. The lecturers are all nice and very helpful (try not to turn up late and distrupt the lecture though). Some modules can be a bit dull, but stick with them because you still need to pass the exam. The lectures take place in a lecture hall and there can be up to around 200 people in there. Some lecturers will give handouts, some use PowerPoint presentations others just talk to you while you take notes. In law, the first year modules do not count towards your final degree classification, but my advice would be to treat it as if it does. It is difficult to start working hard in the 2nd year after not bothering in the first, it also looks better when you come to apply for training contracts or work experience placements, as they ask for your first year results.
Facilities
There is a separate library within the Law School with a large amount of law specific material and computers. There is also a larger library with resources for most subjects. There are various computer rooms in most of the buildings on the different areas of campus with Internet access. There are teams for most sports and a sports building with full gym facilities. There is also a local swimming pool/leisure centre quite close to the Stoke campus. There are two Union bars on campus and various clubs and bars in Hanley (the local town).
Postgraduate life
There is quite a good range of societies and clubs to get involved in, but there is no pressure to join them if you don't want to. Most societies organise their own events, as well as getting involved in University wide events such as ABC night - each club gets given a letter and their members dress up as something beginning with that letter for the night.
Job prospects
Staffordshire University offers the LPC and scored excellently in the assessment of this course. There is also the facility to study for an LLM. If you need details of Postgraduate courses in other subjects the Staffordshire University webpage may be able to help or direct you to someone who can. There is an excellent careers service available, with its own website and drop-in facilities. Each student is also allocated a Personal Tutor who is available to give advice and assistance too.
