Law Llb (Hons)
University Of Abertay Dundee
Helen, February 2007Overall score
Very friendly place to be. In the centre of Dundee city, which provides much to do in your down-time - if you are not in the library that is. The library is brilliant, a new building that is very comfortable, bright and modern. The University has a new student union which has proved to be very popular with students and a great place to meet on a night out as well as for coffee or lunch in the day. The best part of Abertay, however, are the smaller classes (40 students plus approx. 30 EU students in 2nd and 3rd years!), which allows the class to bond well and allows lecturers to get to know you, and you them!
Study experience
Brilliant!! Varied lecturing techniques, all of which provide for great learning. All types of individual catered for, due to small classes one-to-one attention is ample. Could not fault this area!!
Facilities
Facilities in the Uni are ample. Electronic lecture equipment in all lecture rooms. Two large lecture halls. Also 'white space' room due to open shortly, to be used for all kinds of purposes. Wireless internet available throughout the whole of the library and a lot of the main university buildings too. A gym next door to the main building which is fully equipped and also provides lessons. Religious rooms/chapel to cater for many religions. Very good computer/student ratio, one of the best in fact!! Library is easy to use and comfortable!! Bars are good, one serves food throughout the day and evening, the other is a sports bar and all major sports matches are shown. Also a cinema and an art gallery in the union.
Postgraduate life
Great range of clubs and societies!
Job prospects
Abertay has a brilliant record for ensuring their students graduate and get jobs. There are some choices for postgrad, but Dundee University is better re. postgrad courses, however, Dundee University is just a stones throw away and an easy transfer to make if postgrad is something you want to do. However, Abertay are trying to introduce more postgrad courses to their prospectus all the time, and it is the better place to study!!!

Sport Coaching and Sports Development MPhil
University Of Abertay Dundee
Shaun, February 2008Overall score
Overall the university is very good. The union is the heart and soul. The library is excellent. However, the fact that we lack good sports facilities is a minus.
Study experience
The course is excellent, some lecturers are very good and others are not as productive.
Facilities
The library is excellent with great computer facilities.
Postgraduate life
The clubs are numerous, however the stalls at the open day were too small and crammed in. You just wanted to get out!
Job prospects
I hope to move into a sp.as. development officers job, or a full-time coaching post.

Social Sciences Phd
University Of Abertay Dundee
Lorin, April 2007Overall score
The PhD program is great for learning self-reliance, as there is little help from supervisors. As I said in the tag line - this school has GREAT intentions, but SERIOUSLY LACKS follow-through - i.e. profs will tell you one thing, but NEVER follow-through.... (I hear undergrads are pretty well taken care of though.)
Study experience
As a PhD student I do not have courses or lectures. I do have profs though and know that the attitude towards classes varies from (one prof) who is dedicated to both his classes and students to (another prof) who only attends classes when he has nothing else to do. However, as far as my understanding goes, most profs are dedicated to their undergraduate classes.
Facilities
There are supposed to be many facilities at the uni, however some are quite difficult to find, i.e. the sports center, and which computer lab is open to students at which times. The library is NOT extensive, but the librarians are GREAT & will help in whatever way they can.
Postgraduate life
If there are, I don't know of them ... I have found that some information at the uni is INCREDIBLY hard to find - this is one of those subjects.
Job prospects
I am unfamiliar with the statistics upon graduation. However, from a personal perspective (including discussions with graduates) there doesn't seem to be any type of 'advantage' when applying for a job as there might/is with other universities - i.e. no uni loyalty.
