Course Summary

The MPhil is an opportunity to undertake original, in-depth research under expert supervision. The programme will enable you to conduct supervised research into your chosen topic and produce a written thesis (typically 20,000 - 60,000 words). Most students complete this programme in 1 year. You cannot take less than 1 year to finish your research and the maximum time you are allowed is normally 3 years.

Occasionally we make changes to our programmes in response to, for example, feedback from students, developments in research and the field of studies, and the requirements of accrediting bodies. You will be advised of any significant changes to the advertised programme, in accordance with our Terms and Conditions.

For students who wish to complete a PhD, the transfer from MPhil to PhD is subject to passing an assessment process which normally involves submission of written work and an oral examination.
