PGCE Secondary programme, with recommendation for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), offers high-quality training for those wishing to teach in the secondary age range. The History route is designed to equip all trainees to teach history across at Key Stages 3 and 4 and at post 16. The subject specific element of the course will encourage trainees to become thoughtful, reflective and critical practioners who are aware of contemporary debates concerning teaching and learning History. Trainees will be given opportunities to develop skills to motivate and inspire pupils to become successful historians across the key stages. This programme prepares you for a career as a secondary school teacher. At the end of the year you will be recommended for Qualified Teacher Status and will be ready for the next stage of your development as a Newly Qualified Teacher in school. At least 50 percent subject content relevant to the national curriculum requirements for the subject; GCSE English language and mathematics at grade C or above; minimum of 2 weeks' classroom experience in a UK state secondary school within the last 2 years; all successful applicants have to obtain a satisfactory enhanced clearing from the disclosure and barring service (DBS) and complete a satisfactory medical declaration before commencement of the course; students are also required to provisionally register with the GTC(E).
