Teacher Training PGCE (Primary)
University Of Cumbria
John, March 2010Overall score
The management of the course was just dreadful, totally disorganised. There is no support when you go out on placement and it is totally random each time where you are allocated. Terrible, please don't waste your money and your time. The government should not fund this institution.
Study experience
The lecturers were terrible. The staff student ratio meant that there was no support available. Lecturers are ex primary school teachers and thus could never be described as academics let alone researchers.
Facilities
It has a sign outside saying library, but when you went inside it due to the lack of resources it was not obvious you were in the right place.
Postgraduate life
Did not find it!
Job prospects
Competition seems very high for primary jobs and the careers people were not encouraging.

The most important piece of advice is go to a decent university. This is truly terrible in terms of facilities, lecturers and management. Please do not waste your money and your time. This does not deserve to be called a university. My FE college was at a higher level.

Facilities
It claims to have a library but when you go in it is not obvious!
The sports hall is good.
Lecture theatres are poor.
Postgraduate life
Dis not get involved
Job prospects
We were constantly told that getting a teaching job would be difficult outside of the inner city.

Andrea, October 2008Overall score
It's good, the uni is pretty good and in a nice area.
Study experience
It's a very very busy course. Only do it if you're serious about teaching.
Facilities
The uni facilities are really good, with 24hr computer access should you not have a computer.
Postgraduate life
Reasonable selection, though with the pgce course there isn't much time to get involved.
Job prospects
The course will help me gain QTS status which will enable me to teach.
