Postgraduate University Of Warwick reviews

Warwick, Woo!? No!

English Literature MA

University Of Warwick

Jennifer, August 2009

Overall score

I would not recommend Warwick University to others. I felt as though the university only wanted my money and said good luck to the survival bit of the course.

The English department and university as a whole seemed to go out of their way to create a sense of competition between the students in the department. They discouraged bonding, cameraderie and community which made my year of the MA programme incredibly isolating.

Study experience

With all MA programmes there are few contact hours. I chose the disseratation option and thus had four contact hours per week in the first term and two contact hours per week in the second term. It was flexible, but again, isolating.

I was successful in my work and I feel more prepared to handle what a Phd would be like, but I am not sure if this is the purpose of an MA.

Academic advice to new students--do not let your work take over every bit of free time. Make a solid group of friends and set yourselves a schedule each day to work and see friends.

Facilities

The bars are 'improving' as we speak. they are relatively characterless, and one is referred to as the 'airport lounge'.

the sports facilities are well taken care of though busy around 5-7pm when it's difficult to find equipment.

Postgraduate life

I will applaud Warwick's societies which range from trampolining to manga to the international society.

i was a member of the wine and whisky society and cricket and met some great people in both.

Job prospects

Warwick has a good name and this definitely helped my job prospects.

I will consider doing a phd in the future but nothing would ever tempt me to even apply at Warwick. For me, university is more than about job prospects and Warwick offered little by way of emotional and academic support.

Excellence experience

Education MA

University Of Warwick

Rebecca, September 2007

Overall score

Study experience

easily one of the best courses in the subject area in the country. it was hard work with long reading list and assignment, but enthusiast lecturers made them easy to understand and willing to provide extra support for individuals, out of class discussion on the subject was encouraged. to join the course, you need to have a good honour bachelor degree in relevant subject. graduates may apply to progress to MPhil or PhD, there are fundings/ scholarship available if needed.

Facilities

the campus is scattered among the city of sheffield with many buildings in different streets, education building is on glossop road, almost top of a hill, standard classroom. there are 24 hour access computer facilities in mapping street, beautiful victorian building, good library facilities. most buildings are accessible by foot from the city centre and train station.

Postgraduate life

amazing student union, best of the best. it provides friendly and professional support to both home and international students. love the student cinema and cafe. the atmosphere is warmth and positive, other students are friendly and hardworking in general. we only have small class on the course and male and female proportion is half and half.

Highly valued

MA in Translation Studies

University Of Warwick

Dagmara, December 2008

Overall score

Studying in the UK might be very different from studying in other countries - different pattern ofinteraction with students, different methods, different proportion of class time and self-study time.

Study experience

Try to prepare to your classes as well as possible because then, at the end of the term, it will pay off when you have to sit your exams or write your essays.

Facilities

Although sometimes it is difficult to reach certain books in hard copy, lots of materials are available online. The sports facilities are excellent and allow you to do almost any sport you can imagine.

Postgraduate life

Numerous societies to choose from, unfortunately I did not join any.

Job prospects

Highly valued by employers, my uni really helps you to find a job. Plus a very helpful Careers Centre.
