Penny Carey - Employability

Well you might think that the answer I'm going to give you is that the career that most of our graduates go into is working as a solicitor or a barrister, but that is not the whole story. These days, a law degree and post graduate law study in particular can equip you for a whole range of careers, so a number of our post graduates will go on, for example, banking, retail, foreign office, civil service, they may work for multinational corporations either as legal counsel, or using their legal skills in a whole range of other areas.

In term of practice, we have an extensive range of links with local firms, solicitors, and also with barrister chambers. We can offer work experience opportunities and term ship opportunities as well for all of our students.

One point to make is a key differentiating feature of our LLM, our Master of Law is you don't have to do just a dissertation at the end of the subject, but you actually have a choice of doing an internship in a firm solicitors, or barrister chambers, or indeed in a large corporation. And that gives you an idea and some of the skills that your going to need in graduate employment.

So, I would say a post-graduate law study offers a variety of different opportunities, not just limited to being a solicitor or barrister.
