Professor Elspeth Garman, Professor of Molecular Biophysics, gives an overview of studying with the Doctoral Training Centre (DTC). Postgraduates spend four years with the centre. The first year consists of seven months modular train and two ten week projects. Then the following three years are spent completing a PHd of their choice. The DTC acts as an interface between the analytical and conductive sciences and the more ‘fuzzy’ science in the biological arena. It teaches multifaceted skills, enabling students to converse in each other’s variety of scientific and mathematical languages.
