Jon Hughes - Postgraduate Course Overview

Last Updated:

30th May 2013

As a postgraduate, you can apply to study in the school at two levels; masters and PhD. We currently offer MA by research programs in French, German, Hispanic studies, Italian, and comparative literature and culture. We also offer programs in PhD study. The MA by research in those five fields offers a flexible program of study. Students will have the opportunity to work in depth on a topic which they have devised in collaboration with an expert supervisor during the course of a year, or two years in the case of part-time study. They will also undertake a taught module research focus, preparing them for the dissertation, working them through key theoretical methodological approaches. That course is taught right at the start of the program. We likewise welcome applications from qualified PhD students who can undertake research from any of the various topics which are covered by the research and teaching interests of the academics in the school. PhD study can be undertaken either part-time or full time and students will benefit from a very close working relationship with an expert supervisor. They will also have a research adviser appointed within the school. It's also possible to do collaborative research at PhD level with joint supervision, either within the school or possibly working with another of the departments in the university.
