Tassilo Erhardt - Postgraduate Applicants and Career Prospects

Last Updated:

15th July 2013

A Postgraduate student has to be able to think and work almost on his own. Of course, compared to school, compared to undergraduate study, a postgraduate degree will have always have fewer contact hours. So, it's very important that someone has been self- discipline to work on his own, to organize his time on his own, but also certainly a PhD level to be creative, and to think on his own.

Our PhD students usually pursue careers in academia. Our MA students often go further into their PhD studies, either at this institution or elsewhere but many of our Master's graduates also go straight into the profession, some as performers, many as composers, and many also in the music industry, or as curators in museums.

Liverpool Hope University as a whole and the music department, in particular, are small institutions without the urge to grow.

We're quite happy with the size that we have, and we would like to keep it that way because it allows us to give every student very, very close attention.

I think this is something which many of our students value and why they come here in the first place.
