16th October 2014

Dr James Williams, lecturer in York’s Department of English & Related Literature, talks about the MA in Victorian Literature & Culture. The programme covers a wide number of areas across the nineteenth century and is centered on literature of the Victorian period. In the first term students take a core module that gives them grounding in different aspects of the literature of the period. The School teaches students close reading skills in literary history and social history, bibliographical skills, and research methodologies. Students also have the choice of taking options from other courses and incorporating some of those into their program to widen its range. Career options range from academia, marketing or business of different kinds to jobs in the creative industries. Applicants should have an enthusiasm for the Victorian period.
