Course overview

Gain the skills required to become a qualified sports rehabilitator with our 1-Year, BASRAT accredited, MSc Sport Rehabilitation and Therapy.

This highly practical course will equip you with a unique set of skills within the field of sport and exercise rehabilitation and will prepare you for a rewarding career in the exciting and emerging profession of Sports Rehabilitation.

The course prepares graduates from sport and exercise science and other related courses to work as registered Sports Rehabilitators and Therapists. Students on the course will develop a broad range of rehabilitation-focused skills and expertise ranging from soft tissue therapies and massage, to pitch-side first aid, and injury recovery.

Students will also develop the skills to rehabilitate athletes back to full sports participation, as well as learning to examine and assess injuries for both diagnosis or referral.

All learning on the course is focused on acquiring professional skills, which means that students underpin their studies with placements and practical experience to achieve competency in a broad range of practice-focused skills. Students will also be able to gain experience delivering services as part of the Sports Injury and Rehabilitation service delivered as part of AECC University College’s clinical services.

Graduates of this course can go on to become registered members of BASRaT - eligibility is contingent on a number of requirements one of which is holding a BASRaT accredited degree, or equivalent entry.

Modules

In this unit you will critically examine contemporary knowledge and best practice relating to the rehabilitation of a range of sports injuries. You will explore the factors that contribute to sports injuries, the various approaches used in their management and approaches to improve the athlete’s overall ability to return to optimal function and performance. You will also evaluate the effectiveness of various multi-disciplinary management approaches used in sport rehabilitation programmes.

Entry requirements

Normally a first or second-class (2:1 or 2:2) Honours degree or professional experience in the area of study. Examples of degree subject areas accepted are: Sport and Exercise Science; Strength and Conditioning; Sports Coaching Sports Science; Sports Therapy; Physical Education; Physiotherapy and Health and Physical Activity. Other degree subjects may still be considered.
