Course Summary

Corporate responsibility and sustainability have become significant issues for a wide range of organisations and for the managers who work within them. The reasons for this include high-profile corporate scandals; a growing need to demonstrate accountability, transparency and sustainability; a decreasing tolerance for corporate excess and irresponsibility; and the need to protect corporate reputation and to develop brand loyalty and competitive advantage.

Assessment is an integral part of your university studies and usually consists of a combination of coursework and examinations, although this will vary from course to course - on some of our courses, assessment is entirely by coursework. You will need to allow time to complete coursework and prepare for exams.

Graduates can pursue careers in local and national government, business and industry. Possible professions include management consultant, human resources officer, or operational researcher. This degree can also be useful in becoming a marketing executive or retail manager.

Modules

In modern times, Corporate Responsibility (CR) covers a broad swathe of areas in business that managers might be involved with in some way. These might include diversity and employees, corporate governance, human rights, supply chain risk, marketing or energy and climate change policies and action. For some, CR raises questions about the changing role of business in society. For other, more critical, voices it is sometimes seen as a cynical public relations exercise by large companies keen to improve their reputations and fend off regulators, activist social investors and campaign groups. For proponents of CR, it is a way to improve relationships, sales and business processes, and can offer a route to corporate innovation. Within a growing number of companies CR is becoming the basis for strategy.
