Course Summary

How can designers, managers, entrepreneurs and scholars keep pace with the rapidly changing field of digital media and web design? Is it possible to learn skills, approaches and methods that facilitate both current production and the anticipation of future developments in digital media? The MA Digital Media Management provides both the technical and conceptual framework required to succeed in the digital environment of today and tomorrow.

This course is one of the only MA degrees in the UK to combine professional development and technical skills with academic rigour and scholarly consideration. The philosophy of the programme is that the innovative design and management of digital media must go hand in hand with critical thinking about digital media.

The MA Digital Media Management deals exclusively with the management issues relating to the development, organisation and marketing of digital media projects.

By the end of this course, you will have built connections with companies and industry networks, and have developed project-based portfolios that will greatly facilitate your entry into the job market.

TEACHING

Teaching may include formal lectures, seminars, and practical classes and tutorials. Formal lectures are used in most degree programmes to give an overview of a particular field of study. They aim to provide the stimulus and the starting point for deeper exploration of the subject during your own personal reading. Seminars give you the chance to explore a specific aspect of your subject in depth and to discuss and exchange ideas with fellow students. They typically require preparatory study.

CAREERS AND EMPLOYABILITY

Graduates can pursue a career in web development, multimedia programming, design, project management, education and training. Possible professions include web developer, project manager, or digital designer. This degree is also useful in becoming a multimedia specialist, teacher, or market researcher.

Modules

This module gives you experience in the management of digital media development from strategy, purpose and initial project research through to the proposal and presentation of a distinctive professional business plan related to your own personal or professional interests. You choose a project topic for development, describe its relevance to work or personal interests, and decide on the means of delivery and evaluation. You will produce proposals and plans for assessment with a logical progression of ideas and a practical application of theories and models informed by your own interests and independent research, and complete a reflective personal log that relates to your benchmarks for the course and future career development.
