MBA in Education Leadership and Management has been designed for experienced teachers, departmental heads, lecturers, managers, leaders and senior professionals working in education in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors in the UK and abroad. In an increasingly competitive environment, this course provides educational practitioners with an opportunity to develop your organisational, management and business skills as well as to enhance your professional practice.

This MBA is delivered through a partnership between the Business School and the Faculty of Education. Staff from the Business School combine excellence in their academic disciplines with considerable educational, managerial and business experience as well as active research in both the public and private sectors. Recognised nationally and internationally as a centre of excellence for teacher education and development, the Faculty of Education has also developed a reputation for being at the cutting edge of knowledge and training in education.

The programme is aimed at education sector professionals, these can be teachers, lecturers, heads, principals, office/business managers, specialists or other managers who are looking to enhance their qualifications and knowledge base. This often includes those who have been given, or are going to be given, responsibility for other staff and often for budgets too. This MBA is specially aimed at those with leadership and managerial roles within education.


Progress is assessed on an on­going basis, through assessments including written reports, group and individual presentations, and on­line submissions. In total 180 Level 7 credits are required for the MBA; this includes the final dissertation. Assessment is via coursework.

This module aims to provide you with an understanding of strategic concepts and in particular the importance of sustainable and competitive advantage in driving future strategy. The impact of the business environment and internal resources of organisations on strategic planning and choice will be critically examined in the context of achieving pragmatic strategic change.

Candidates must normally provide evidence of a good honours degree in any subject (i.e. a 1st class honours or a 2.1 honours degree), managerial or professional experience in an education context.
