Course Summary

Film Studies MPhil: The University offers excellent facilities for research, teaching and professional practice for MPhil and PhD research in Film Studies. There is a strong interdisciplinary research culture bringing historical and theoretical approaches to the study of film, television and screen media from silent and Hollywood film, to narrative features, documentary, avant-garde and experimental film.


You’ll need to submit 6000 words of appropriate quality within 6 months (1 year if part-time) to progress further with your MPhil.


Every research student has a team of two supervisors, who are accredited for research standing and experience by the Graduate School.

Your supervisory team is a vital part of your research degree, so it is important to choose supervisors whose interests complement and align with yours. As a research student it’s your responsibility to manage and work proactively with your supervisory team.

Your work will be reviewed and discussed annually at a Review Meeting, chaired by a senior researche.
