CARDIFF UNIVERSITY
Overall Rating

Cardiff University offers students a vibrant and diverse academic environment located in an exciting student city. The campus is centered around the impressive Portland stone buildings of Cathays Park, providing a beautiful setting to pursue your studies. Cardiff has a lively atmosphere with abundant nightlife, cultural events, restaurants and more - there's always something going on around town to get involved in. The university offers a wide range of courses and opportunities for interdisciplinary research across a broad selection of subjects. Students also benefit from an active Student Union that organizes social activities, represents student issues to the administration, and provides essential services to help foster a sense of community. From an affordability standpoint, tuition and living costs in Cardiff are generally lower than many other major UK cities. The location also makes travel convenient, with an international airport located nearby. However, there are some downsides to studying at Cardiff that need to be improved. Due to many students living outside the city center and commuting in, campus can feel empty at times and it's hard to find affordable, good quality housing near campus. The quality of teaching is uneven, depending on the module and lecturers. The division into multiple campuses also means none of them feel that big and the student community can feel dispersed. Students report frustrations with bureaucratic administration processes. The typical UK weather also means dealing with a lot of rain and grey skies due to the campus' open spaces. Overall though, Cardiff University still provides a good student experience compared to many other universities, with abundant opportunities and advantages that make it a great place to pursue your degree. The university just needs to focus on enhancing the areas that need improvement to make campus life more integrated, housing more accessible, academics more consistent, and administrative processes smoother.
