Course Summary

Introduction

Embarking on this MBA will help you to develop the skills and knowledge to be an exceptional leader in your field – and it sends a clear signal to your employer that you’re strongly motivated to succeed. Our flexible, distance learning course lets you study while you work, and tailor your learning around your current role. Responding to the growing demand for innovative approaches to education, our Educational Leadership and Management MBA will hone and develop your existing skills. It provides a chance to reflect on contemporary education leadership practice and theories, and to push forward in a leadership or management role for the benefit of your pupils and colleagues.

As an MBA Educational Leadership and Management student at ARU you’ll begin each course module with a workshop, where you’ll build relationships with fellow students and staff. The rest of your studying will be distance learning. All our MBA students study six core modules, which are relevant whether you’re working in the UK or overseas, already employed in a leadership or management role, or taking on additional responsibility in your teaching or lecturing role. The distance learning elements are interactive. You’ll have opportunities to take part in online discussion and talk about key topics with fellow students and course tutors. We offer a broad range of learning materials including text, audio, and video as well as ebooks and ejournals. We also help you to develop your skills in accessing, producing, and making appropriate use of social sciences research literature. Throughout the Educational Leadership and Management MBA, you’ll have a high level of one-to-one support from a dedicated tutor. Our postgraduate courses use teaching and learning methods that give you the widest possible exposure to a modern, innovative higher education experience.

How you'll be assessed

You'll be assessed in a variety of ways and will be given support to develop and refine your writing skills so you can become confident in writing for different audiences. Assessments draw on ‘live’ opportunities for learning from your current role. Through writing and presenting you’ll develop a range of approaches to presenting evidence and action planning.

Careers

An MBA in Educational Leadership and Management can help with career progression and open up new opportunities in senior management, strategic leadership, directorships and consultancy. If you’ve completed an undergraduate degree, this higher-level award will help you develop a deeper knowledge of your subject. Masters study also enhances transferable skills such as independent working, verbal and written communication, critical and creative thinking, presentation skills, team working, research and project management and increased self-confidence. Our MBA can also be a first step towards working in research or university lecturing or a pathway to a PhD or EdD.

Modules

Within this module students will engage in theory and wider research in relation to performance evaluation, leading change, and improvement planning and change management. Students are required to use metrics and their knowledge and understanding of benchmarking performance in order to identify an area of practice that would benefit from improvement they will produce a critically reflective commentary that will provide the underpinning rationale for the action plan, linked to models of good practice. The commentary will be required to evidence a deep level of understanding of change management and include proposed strategies for mitigating against any perceived barriers to change.
