MSc - Master of Science
Midwifery
Taught
Introduction
Develop your knowledge and skills to an advanced level with our challenging Masters degree in Advanced Midwifery Practice. Study in Chelmsford or by distance learning. Here at ARU we have a track record for innovative midwifery training. If you’re a midwife looking to refine your skills and quickly apply them to your practice, our Advanced Midwifery Practice MSc is for you. As a postgraduate student, you’ll learn to assess the individual needs of women and how to plan, implement and evaluate care that meets the need of mother, baby and family alike. You’ll also recognise and respond to facts that affect the physical, emotional and social wellbeing of mothers and babies while developing essential problem solving skills.
With concerns about rising rates of intervention, you’ll be encouraged to explore how to promote normality during childbirth and how to care for vulnerable women with complex needs, with the aim of reducing intervention. Completing this course will enhance your career options. It could prepare you for a move into leadership positions in clinical settings, management or teaching. Or, if your interests lie in further study, it’s an ideal grounding for a postgraduate research degree, such as our professional doctorate.
How you'll be assessed
We’ll assess you in a number of ways. Assessment methods vary between modules and include written essays, seminar presentations with supporting papers, a research proposal and, for your Masters award, a major project of no more than 15,000 words.
Careers
Completing our MSc Advanced Midwifery Practice gives you the potential to move into leadership positions in clinical settings, or follow a career in the fields of management, research and teaching.
If you choose to learn on campus, you’ll also have the option to complete the course with an additional qualification as a Newborn Infant Physical Examination (NIPE) practitioner. Whichever path interests you most, you’ll be equipped with the skills and knowledge to become an innovative, forward-thinking practitioner, able to effect change in healthcare planning, delivery and education. You will gain Intermediate awards: PG Cert, PG Dip.
