Course info

Music is important to all. At an early age, some will partake in musical activities – vocal, instrumental, member of a rock band, choir or orchestra; others are satisfied with listening to diverse styles of music as a means of relaxation. Yes, music is an integral element of life, and it is important that we provide a secure foundation of musical knowledge and skills for the learners of the future. The PGCE Music course provides an opportunity for practical musical involvement, developing teaching skills and making a difference. The main focus of the Music PGCE course is to apprehend how learners learn and experience through music. As one of the disciplines of the Expressive Arts of the new Curriculum for Wales, there is a practical and interactive opportunity, through music, to explore, respond and to create. The lectures offer an opportunity to study, discuss and to develop an understanding of how to create engaging, interesting and effective activities which combine Performing, Composing and Appraising. Through practical approaches, the course will focus on musical pedagogy and on effective teaching strategies that will lead to developing curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, self-confidence, self-esteem and resilience. This is a course and a profession that will allow you to enjoy your subject and to inspire musicians of the future, whatever their musical experience and interest. It is a pathway for professional development, for working with others along with broadening personal specialism.
