About This Course

Underpinned by the latest development in women’s health, midwifery and maternity care, this exciting new programme will be of interest to qualified midwives and other relevant healthcare professionals. This programme will challenge midwives to critically examine how they can work to optimise the childbirth experience of all women and their families.

Graduates of this programme will have the ability to not only reflect on professional practice to enhance self-awareness and professional development but also the skills and knowledge base to critically analyse and evaluate maternity care provision in order to identify areas for development.

Course Content

What will you study on this course?

Students will develop a critically understanding of the midwife’s role in the improvement of health and well-being and the skills needed to optimise the childbirth experience. Students will further develop their skills in working with and for women and communities to optimise the childbirth experience, promote and protect equality, diversity and the rights of individuals.

Careers

In addition to equipping any midwife with additional knowledge and skills that would enhance his or her autonomy within practice, this programme will equip midwives with the necessary knowledge and skills required to seek employment opportunities at a senior level, for example: as a consultant midwife, practice development and leadership roles and can be used as a stepping stone to gaining the MSc Midwifery Studies.

Entry requirements

For consideration for entry onto the programme, you should possess registration as a Midwife or another relevant healthcare qualification in your home country with a degree classification of a 2(ii) or higher. Alternatively, possession of a suitable qualification and work experience will be considered.
