Course Summary

Marketing communications are messages and related media used to communicate with a market. Our MSc Marketing Communications explores and investigates the marketing communications business, how marketing communications work, how to plan a marketing communications campaign, and ethical considerations when implementing marketing communications in practice.

You will learn about organisational decision-making processes and how to define and solve marketing communications problems. You will also examine how marketeers formulate and implement policies, programmes and strategies, and consider marketing communications theory and practice in a range of industries and organisations, so you can identify appropriate practical tools.

Accredited by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) which is the leading professional body for marketers worldwide and exists to develop the marketing profession, maintain professional standards and improve the skills of marketing practitioners.

CAREERS AND EMPLOYABILITY

Graduates can pursue careers in advertising, media and event marketing, public relations, management and market research. Possible professions include advertising, marketing, distribution, public relations, or sponsorship. This degree can also be useful within a variety of roles within local and national government, as well as in becoming a public relations officer, marketing executive, public affairs consultant, or advertising copywriter.

We offer a comprehensive Careers Service to help you advance your career, while our in-house, professional recruitment consultancy, Birkbeck Talent, works with London’s top employers to help you gain work experience that fits in with your evening studies.

Modules

Historically, companies have been almost exclusively focused on the marketing mix framework, especially for product-related exchanges. The idea of the customer being the centre of the framework has only gradually been recognised as a key driver of profitability.
