Overview

Our PGCE Secondary course is an innovative and intensive nine month course preparing you, as a graduate, for the demands of teaching in the secondary sector. You will be awarded a PGCE and recommended for Qualified Teacher Status, enabling you to teach in schools on completion of the course.

The course is organised in partnership with schools around Kent and Medway where you will spend 24 out of the 36 weeks teaching in two different schools.

Subjects you can train to teach in are: Art & Design; Computing; English; Geography; History; Mathematics; Modern Foreign Languages; Music; Physical Education; Religious Education; Sciences; Social Sciences.

Upon successful completion of the programme you can teach in schools all over the world as a qualified teacher.

In this module you will have the opportunity to choose to research one of the following six aspects of education to help develop your personal philosophy of teaching, whatever your specialist subject area: Cosmopolitanism and Global Citizenship; Cross-curricular Learning and Epistemic Insight; Sustainability and Participation in Education; Enriching learning through Research Informed Practice; Faith and Education: Preparing to teach in faith schools or Professional Development for Teachers.

Entry requirements

For all subject areas, a good honours degree (2:2 or above) in a subject related to the subject you wish to teach or, in some exceptional cases, an unrelated degree if you have extensive employment in industry in the relevant subject area. You will need English and maths at GCSE (grade C or above) or equivalent for Secondary.
