Course Summary

The MA Interior Design at Cardiff Met will prepare you to play a key role in tackling climate change through environmentally sustainable interior design and specification. The construction industry accounts for a significant proportion of the UK’s total carbon footprint, but responsible, innovative interior design can develop more sustainable solutions for new and existing buildings alike. Our Interior Design Masters degree examines strategies for climate change mitigation and adaptation, exploring relevant theories and techniques within the discipline. Interior designers and architects have a unique opportunity to work directly with clients, advising them of their environmental and social responsibility, to creatively design functional and sustainable spaces that cater for human experience and habitation. The MA Interior Design challenges you to create interior spaces that account for climate change and longevity, with a focus on design for occupant health and wellbeing, alongside the specification of environmentally sustainable products, materials and techniques. This Masters degree in interior design will encourage you to engage with key theories and contemporary debates. This will foster your understanding of how these can influence the conception, development and communication of your ideas, which will impact upon the success of your future practice as an interior designer or architect. If you are looking to deepen your knowledge and understanding of what it means to be a climate conscious interior designer, and/or extend and develop your sustainable design practice to support your future as a practitioner, researcher or academic, the MA Interior Design at Cardiff Met is for you.
