This module introduces the concept of data analytics in the shipping, energy, trade, and finance sectors. In particular, it teaches you how to work efficiently with commodity, shipping, and financial data so as to make data-driven business decisions.
The aim of the course is to develop an understanding of modern corporate finance so that the corporate manager, the investment banker and the financial analyst will have the conceptual foundations for making informed corporate assessments of key financial decisions.
The purpose of the module is to provide an in-depth study of the energy industry structure and strategies, study the fundamentals of oil and energy trading economics and relate those to current market trends. You will be introduced to the key issues involved in physical and financial energy trading as well as advanced issues related with the production, trading and risk management of oil and other energy commodities including natural gas, LNG, LPG and coal.
The module focuses on the value chain of electricity, from its sourcing and generation to its supply, including the economics, pricing, policies and other pertinent issues. The module aims to place environmental and energy policies in context of the power sector, since governmental targets and the integration of renewable energy sources bring new challenges to these relatively new markets.
This module aims to get you to combine economic/financial theory with more advanced quantitative techniques. The module covers different applications of probability and statistical techniques to analyse and solve various problems in business, economics, finance and transport. Different models and techniques used in research an empirical problem solving are introduced and discussed to assist the business decision making process. These methods include modelling building and forecasting, simulation techniques, optimisation, risk analysis and VaR estimation, amongst others.
