We help you develop new and existing skills, significantly enhance your knowledge of healthcare economics and prepare you for working life in the healthcare field.

Our department hosts the City Health Economics Centre (CHEC) and the London Health Economics Group (LHEG). Your studies will benefit from the expertise in both.

By graduation you will have a sharpened understanding of health economics and its theoretical foundations, as well as improved abilities in analysis and modelling.

You will be also be confident in applying economic evaluations and advanced quantitative methods to healthcare decision-making.

Teaching and assessment

You will learn through a series of lectures that are made available online, as well as through seminars and interactive group work. Lectures introduce key theories, concepts and knowledge which is discussed in seminar groups.

You will learn from research-active academic staff and graduate teaching assistants. We also invite specialist speakers from industry to deliver lectures and seminars in the field of health economics.

Modules

This module provides an understanding of the basis upon which efficient choices about resources use may be made, and offers an analytical framework for making these choices. It provides an introduction to economic evaluation methods, which are built on in later modules.

You should have: Some mathematical background (A-level, IB, AP or any other equivalent secondary school qualification) and A lower second class (2.2) or above undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in an economics related discipline (e.g. Finance, Business), Pharmacy, Medicine, Nursing or any other health science related discipline.
