Course Summary

Learn about the rapidly globalising publishing industry with the International Publishing MA from City. From industry-focused assignments to digital content development, we will give you an extensive range of modern skills and knowledge required to succeed in this fascinating and forever changing global industry.You will learn about the publishing industry in its international context, and about how the industry is being re-shaped by cultural and technological changes around the world. Our programme gives you an applied understanding of how physical and digital texts are conceived, developed and marketed across a wide range of publishing sectors. Your learning will give you an applied understanding of the many different sectors of the publishing industry, including fiction and non-fiction publishing, academic and educational publishing, and the growing varieties of digital publishing. Your will be set a mix of research-led, industry-led assignments, designed to build your practical skills and your theoretical knowledge of the industry. Throughout your MA will focus on the interplay of print and digital publishing, and we will seek to give you the skills and understanding to thrive in both.

Modules

The module will provide an effective working knowledge of the business and marketing principles and practices of publishing. You will look at how they are applied in different types of publishing organisations in both domestic and global markets.

Entry requirements

You should have: an upper second class honours degree or the equivalent from an international institution; evidence of a commitment to a career in publishing (such as experience within bookselling or publishing, voluntary or professional experience on a publication) or evidence of research into current industry conditions; IELTS 7.0 or above. You are also encouraged to apply if you have relevant professional experience.
