Course Summary

Overview

The MSc Risk Management course is designed for individuals who want to build an understanding of risk analysis to respond to organisational challenges.

It is designed to accommodate graduates and industry practitioners looking to develop or enhance their potential career options in the diverse field of risk management, in industries such as management consultancy, health, engineering, aviation, mining, petroleum, finance and more.

It aims to develop graduates skilful in identifying, analysing and managing contemporary risks in an organisational context to enact positive change and ensure sustainable business resilience. It gives you the opportunity to develop knowledge, skills and competencies – the approach that organisations use to manage risks arising from their environment. This will further be applied in real-world and simulated case examples where you can apply various risk management tools and techniques, culminating in a final consultancy project.

The course benefits from experienced academic staff with substantial research and industry experience in the risk management field to ensure practice-based industry-informed learning, as well as capitalising on contemporary research emanating from the Coventry University’s specialist research centres (please note staff are subject to change). Renowned industry experts are involved in the delivery of course content through guest lecturing to provide industry perspectives and key employability skills (subject to availability). Through this, the course aims to remain relevant to ever-changing contemporary industry practices, tools and techniques.

You can also benefit from a wide range of opportunities designed to extend your knowledge and learning and obtain a global perspective through our Business Simulation Suite (subject to availability) and engagement with modules that are created to address risk management issues globally. These features combine to ensure that, upon successful completion, you should be well prepared to work in a variety of contemporary organisations.

On successful completion, students should be able to:

Evidence a systematic in-depth understanding of the strategic importance of risk management to organisations and enterprises locally, nationally and globally;
Critically apply a variety of risk management tools and techniques to evaluate risk and develop informed sustainable mitigation strategies across diverse contexts;
Collect and collate data to critically analyse the nature of risks, impact and consequence to the effectiveness of organisational performance;
Expand their capacity to manage their continuous development to become reflective, adaptable, ethical and professional practitioners within the sector;
Critically assess organisational behaviour based on the principles of business ethics, corporate social responsibility (such as sustainable development goals), risk management and governance to ensure optimised sustainable business resilience;
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the principles of consultancy, organisational change and the theories and practices of strategic leadership.
