Our MA in Languages, Literatures and Cultures invites students to work on literary and cultural topics across languages and borders, drawing on our vast wealth of knowledge and expertise in Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Hispanic, Italian, Japanese, and Russian Studies. The programme will take you on an exciting intellectual journey across continents and time periods, exploring the history, development, and transmission of languages, literatures and cultures.The course will nurture your interests in world literature and comparative studies, enabling you to work on literary and cultural materials from diverse contexts, both in translation and in their original languages. You will examine texts in their local, regional and national contexts, and explore what happens when literary studies intersects with other fields: translation, philosophy, visual culture, and beyond.The course is taken full-time over one year and will consist of core and elective modules from the full range of Arts & Humanities subjects.The programme will culminate with an individual dissertation project, involving the detailed study of a topic related to world literature or culture, chosen by you, which you will write under the supervision of a subject specialist.The School of Modern Languages and Cultures has a rich and vibrant research culture, with a number of cutting-edge research groups and centres.
