This programme is designed for graduates who would like to work in the lifelong learning sector. The sector includes further, higher and adult education, community and youth services, the health services, uniformed services (the armed
forces, prison, the police and fire services), and private trainers and large organisations with their own training departments. It also includes provision for teaching 14 to 16-year-olds in some subjects.
Successful candidates may apply for status as Qualified Teacher, Learning and Skills (QTLS). Recent changes to legislation now enable some holders of QTLS to teach in schools.
This is a full-time course, normally completed in one year. Students will spend two days per week with other trainee teachers, following a course of academic study on principles of teaching and learning. Up to three days per week will be
spent in a placement within their specialist area, working with a range of students and building skills and confidence as a teacher.
