Course Summary

What makes a good leader? Find out as you develop an invaluable business toolkit and build an impressive foundation of knowledge.

During our MSc Business and Management course, you’ll discover how to make good business decisions based on sound analysis and gain a solid grasp of business essentials. Examine the factors that affect a company’s success and master modern business theory.

Innovative businesses need effective operations management. You’ll study valuable tools and techniques like marketing and product development. You’ll conduct business research and look at financial data ready to champion new ideas at work.

People skills are integral to good management too. We’ll help you explore key issues in leading, managing and developing people as you find your leadership style.

Focus on your interests with an optional module and an independent research project. Choose from international finance, brand management, innovation or human resources.

Leading, Managing and Developing People recognises that, in the new digital society, effective leadership and human resource management are fundamental to any contemporary organisation adapting to technological disruption and economic uncertainty. The present economic and social context in which organisations operate will transform tasks, jobs and skills to the extent that long-standing jobs may be eliminated and replaced by jobs-for-tomorrow. According to the World Economic Forum report (2020), it is estimated that there will be a shift in the division of labour between humans and machines and an increase in the level of work process digitisation, including the expansion of remote working practices. This new context of work raises the need to reskill or upskill existing workers, while other issues such as labour productivity and employee wellbeing also require consideration. By focusing on effective leadership and human resource management, this module will enhance your knowledge and understanding of leading, managing and developing people to help them adapt to change and the future of work in the new digital society.
