We’ve designed this programme for psychology graduates who have Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership with the British Psychological Society (BPS). You’ll develop the interpersonal, evaluative, technical and creative skills to assess health issues and design effective interventions.

Learning flexibly in person and online, we’ll help you sharpen your analytical, problem-solving and advanced research skills to prepare you for postgraduate employment or further study in health psychology and beyond.

Our MSc Health Psychology gives you the practical skills and technical knowledge to work in a range of sectors or continue your studies.

If you want to continue studying, you might complete a PhD or doctoral-level study in health psychology or a related area. This course also boosts your prospects of securing a place on a doctorate training programme in clinical psychology.

Modules

Advanced Research Methodsequips you with an understanding of the research process, including both traditional and contemporary research techniques. It outlines the steps involved in formulating specific and impactful research questions in health psychology. The module will develop the research skills you need to design your own empirical research projects and dissertation, including qualitative, quantitative and mixed methodologies. You will also discover the importance of critically evaluating your own research, as well as published research, across health psychology in peer reviewed journals. Teaching will be sensitive to issues concerning social responsibility, such the role of service users and reference groups in all stages of the research process, including formulating research questions and determining feasible and acceptable methodologies. Optimal strategies for disseminating research findings in an inclusive manner, as well as the importance of reaching out to marginalised groups, will also be highlighted.

Entry requirements

You should have a degree equivalent to UK first-class or upper second-class honours (2:1 or above) in psychology and the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) with the British Psychological Society. You will also need to demonstrate attaining a minimum of upper second-class honours (2:1 or above) in your dissertation module (or equivalent final-year research project), evidencing this by supplying a detailed copy of your degree transcript (or equivalent). An interview may form part of the selection process.
