Course Summary

Course overview

This unique Master of Research (MRes) degree in Equestrian Performance provides the ideal opportunity for you to develop your expertise in your preferred equestrian-focused research area, whilst contributing to new industry knowledge through a significant piece of academic research.

You could design your research to support you in your existing career or link it to an aspect of the equine industry into which you would like to progress. We can support you to develop a valuable research focus, if required.

Our Equestrian Performance Research Arena is fast developing its reputation for world-leading research. You’ll be supported to design and conduct your research by academically and industry-experienced lecturers and professors.

You’ll benefit from world-class research facilities on campus, including our commercial equine and rider performance centres, training arenas, scientific laboratories, as well as our livery centre with over 230 horses and riders at different levels, from Olympic and Paralympic athletes to novice riders. You may choose to focus your research on one of these contexts, or in an external location, relevant to your project.

Delivery is flexible and often at weekends to fit around your work or other commitments. Your research project can be developed in your own time to fit around your other commitments.

What you'll study

This degree is centred around an extended research project - an innovative, independent piece of research designed to progress your own as well as industry expertise.

Scheduled teaching generally takes place in blocks across weekends and your research project can be developed independently to fit around other commitments.

Compulsory taught modules will advance your skills in critically evaluating current research, and develop your abilities in research design and statistical analysis.

How you'll study

We're committed to supporting you to fulfil your unique potential while you're here so that you can achieve your personal and professional goals.

Your career

Industry opportunities on this course are largely provided by our own businesses on campus (see facilities tab), as well as the networking facilitated through guest lecturers and field trips.

Modules

Gain experience of exploring literature, understanding and utilising research methodologies, and data analysis aligned to your specific area of interest. This process will lead to the design, completion and write up of a preliminary research project where dissemination of research outputs will also be covered to develop scientific communications skills.
