  • Offers students a cutting-edge experience in understanding ways in which our relationship with food interacts with the brain, mind and body.
  • Suitable for those working within health and social care, including qualified counsellors, student counsellors (see eligibility criteria in the 'Applications' tab below), psychotherapists, counselling and clinical psychologists, mental health and wellbeing professionals, nurses, doctors and teachers who would like to develop a greater depth of understanding about eating disorders, and how to help.

Key features:

  • Food and eating dominate our everyday life in one way or another, either by offering sustenance, providing friendship or simply through avoidance. This course offers knowledge of Eating Disorders and ways to explore our relationships with food, while examining the effects they have on the body and mind.
  • Neuroscience will thread its way throughout this course and in doing so, will illustrate the strong neuroscientific influences affecting the eating disordered brain. The course also allows for discussion about societal and cultural pressures, physical signs and symptoms of various eating difficulties and the physical and emotional aspects of using food in ways that provide problematic consequences.
  • The course will engage students in a learning environment which offers creative and innovative classroom discussions and debates. It is suitable for those in helping professions where a better understanding of eating disorders would be an asset.
