If you choose to complete a PhD programme, you'll spend your time researching a topic that contributes new knowledge to your field. You'll be trained in research skills which will be valuable in many different careers. You'll be assessed with an oral exam called a "viva voce", and you'll be asked to present your research in a thesis of up to 100,000 words.

You need a good first degree for PhD entry and relevant professional experience for studying for a professional doctorate. A good first degree is an honours degree with a minimum 2:1 classification.
