Explore architecture, urban design and planning as methods for creative thinking, re-imagining the practices that shape architecture and urban environments. This master’s degree offers highly experimental design approaches to architecture and urban design and has two pathways to choose from: MA Architecture Speculative Futures and MA Architecture Future Cities. As part of this course, you’ll: Conduct practice-based and design-led research Re-imagine new modes of production in architecture, urban design and planning Combine insights from architecture, urban design, ecology, and emerging technologies to respond to complex global issues using innovative interdisciplinary methods Explore speculative and environmentally responsive design to enhance your future design practice Create innovative methodologies by using cutting-edge digital technologies Address current and future challenges through forward-thinking, sustainable, and visionary urban and architectural solutions Reflect on urban and architectural phenomena while investigating relevant theories, histories, cultures and societies Design resilient and environmentally conscious projects that tackle complex global issues Advance your expertise in sustainable architecture and ecological responsibility Develop original, evidence-based design solutions and lead research-driven projects across diverse scales and contexts Engage with urban design and planning challenges to reimagine inclusive, sustainable urban spaces that adapt to future demands (MA Architecture Future Cities) Expand your thinking, pushing the boundaries of conventional architecture while addressing social, cultural, political, economic, environmental and emerging technological challenges (MA Architecture Speculative Futures) Studio learning Through studio tuition, you’ll develop design responses and creative solutions for studio briefs tailored to each pathway, engaging with one-to-one critiques and group discussions. This process aims to encourage interdisciplinary collaborations through peer learning, and critical feedback and feedforward. Specialist facilities You'll have access to a learning environment that includes multimedia studios equipped with computers, pin-up areas and dedicated desk spaces. In addition, you’ll have access to the school 3D Model shop, a 24/7 library and specialist workshops. Guest lectures Our Leeds School of Architecture Open Lecture Series and Symposia bring together some of the most exciting names from the fields of architecture. You’ll also have the opportunity to attend events being held as part of the Leeds School of Arts INSIDE/OUT lecture series.
